In this episode of THE SOURCE, Quill and Scroll Executive Director talks with Barbara Tholen, the adviser at Lawrence (Kansas) High School. In 1996, as Barbara Hollingsworth, Tholen received a scholarship from Quill and Scroll, which she put to use studying journalism at Kansas State University.
Barbara graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in suburban Kansas City, and her high school journalism teacher was Becky (Lucas) Tate.

Q&S journalist Nichole Shaw sits down with Jia Tolentino, author and staff writer at The New Yorker, to talk about Tolentino's book "Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-delusion."
Tolentino was inducted into Quill & Scroll during her stint as editor of her high school newspaper at a Christian school in Houston, Texas in the late 2000s.
In her interview with THE SOURCE, Tolentino discusses her book, vaping, the #MeToo movement, writing while listening to music, and cheerleading.
The interview was conducted in the Dey House, which is the home of world-famous Iowa Writer's Workshop, and where Tolentino is a Writer-in-Residence for the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing.

Join us as Quill and Scroll host Nichole Shaw speaks with award-winning photojournalist Barbara Kinney about what life was like as one of the White House photographers during the Clinton Administration and a campaign photographer for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election. Together, they discuss the photojournalism industry—alongside Barbara's career and the progress of women over the last five years—and advice for budding photojournalists on how to get their career started.
Kinney's photograph of President Clinton and the leaders of the Middle East straightening their ties before an event won her a First Place for “People in the News” in the prestigious World Press Photo competition. The photo was on display in the exhibit “Pictures of the Year: 75 Years of the World’s Best Photography” at the Newseum in Washington D-C. Her work at large has appeared on the covers of TIME, Newsweek, People, and more.
